Safeway proud and B.C. strong – opening our new Safeway Austin Heights store in Coquitlam
" >

With the grand opening of the new Safeway store in the Austin Heights community of Coquitlam, B.C. we’re investing to bring more convenience, choice and exceptional customer service to B.C.

That’s something to be proud of!

On September 12th, Mick Ghuman, Store Manager and his store team welcomed local dignitaries and hundreds of customers to the Grand Opening of the new Safeway Austin Heights store. Safeway is the  lead tenant in a new Austin Heights retail residential development, which includes two condominium towers providing 365 residential living spaces.

“The store is located in the “heart” of Coquitlam and designed to serve a community that is densifying and gentrifying – the kind of location we look to for the long term”, said Ralf Mundel, VP Operations, Safeway B.C. “We’re very excited to be a part of this growing community.”

The new store includes large seafood, deli and bakery sections, and extensive hot food area offering delicious, freshly prepared meals for customers to enjoy in-store or take away. A focus on fresh, local produce and locally sourced products continues to be a core priority, including fresh in-season fruits and vegetables from the lower mainland and Okanagan Valley. Our incredible selection is on trend offering natural and organic products. In addition, customers can conveniently fill prescriptions while shopping, or consult with a pharmacy professional in the newly built consultation room.

What does great customer service mean to Mick and his new team? “As store manager, it means being available to customers to provide a shopping environment where our customers feel welcome to gather  and enjoy freshly prepared meals. I’m proud that we are able to serve all of their shopping needs with a wide range of products and outstanding customer service. We’re bringing a new modern look and feel and great product assortment, but it’s our Safeway store team members that make the difference. They’re dedicated to providing consistent and exceptional customer service each and every day. As always, an essential part of our Safeway commitment includes supporting initiatives that matter to the local community,” said Mick Ghuman

To mark the grand opening of the store, Mick and his teams welcomed representatives from the KidStart Mentoring Program at Plea Community Services Society B.C. to accept a $1,000 donation towards expansion of its program in the local Coquitlam community.  KidStart Mentoring Programs recruit and train caring adults to coach vulnerable kids ages 12 and up through life situations. Safeway’s donation will provide the opportunity for KidStart to now expand its mentorship program to support youth ages 12 and under.

Congratulations Mick Ghuman and the entire Safeway Austin Heights Team!
