Your feedback matters: Participate in The Employee Experience Survey today!

We’re excited to announce that the 2023 Employee Experience Survey is here!

Safeway is committed to continuously improving, and your participation in the annual survey is one of the key ways we can continue growing as a business and as a team. Your feedback is crucial to helping us understand what is working well and where we need to focus our efforts to make improvements. It’s also a chance for you to help guide our future strategies and initiatives.

The survey, powered by Qualtrics, is open from March 20 – April 10, and will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

There are three ways to access the survey from any computer or mobile device with an internet connection:

  1. Visit the People Portal and click the Employee Experience Survey tile on the homepage.
  2. Visit tinyurl.com/OurVoices2023
  3. Scan the QR code found on a survey promotional poster in your back room.
  4. On your store’s tablet (received through the Scene+ rollout) under Employee Resources, click on the EE Survey icon.

Your feedback is confidential and individual responses will not be shared at any point.

Your participation is critical to helping us improve our workplace and create a positive and engaging environment for all teammates. We look forward to sharing the results of the survey shortly after it closes.

If you have any questions, please speak with your Store Manager or HRBP.

Thank you for your willingness to share and for your time and commitment.

The Employee Experience Survey is coming soon! Have your voice heard.

At Safeway, we believe that a winning culture is cultivated from a winning experience for our teammates. Each year, we send out an Employee Experience Survey to hear from you, our valuable teammates, about what’s important to you and how we can deliver the best experience for everyone.

The survey will be open from March 20 – April 10, 2023, for all Corporate and Candico teammates. Your feedback is confidential and individual responses will not be shared at any point.

Over the last year, your feedback from the 2022 survey informed our strategies and initiatives and refined our People Plan so that we can better engage, support, and empower teammates.

We’ve seen countless success stories across the company. So, as we prepare for this year’s survey, we’re highlighting some of the exciting initiatives we’ve launched or improved across the company, thanks to your feedback!

  • Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: DE&I is our shared top priority, and we’ve continued our commitment to advancing DE&I with further initiatives and integration into our business goals. These include sharing teammate stories, focusing on indigenous relationslaunching pronoun name tags, celebrating supplier diversity, examining ways to mitigate bias in our talent processes and DE&I training for leaders.

  • Reducing environmental impact: You shared that working for a socially responsible company was important to you. From reducing food waste in our stores to sending less plastic and packaging to landfills, we’ve continued to look at various ways to reduce our environmental impact. Part of this initiative was our #FoodRescue Movement, a two-week marketing campaign that inspired Canadians to come together and do Our Part for future generations by rescuing food at home.

  • Making teammate resources more accessible: You identified that having better access to our tools and resources was an area we could improve in. We continue to look for ways to make our resources more user-friendly to help you personally and professionally; such as the improved People Portal experience, and our Mental Wellbeing toolkit and website to protect and improve our mental health.

  • Improving the Teammate Experience: Delivering value to our teammates is a part of our investment in you. Based on your feedback, in 2023 alone we:
    • leveraged our partnership with Scene+ and rebranded our employee discount program to provide you with core discounts at our participating banners, and unique offers through our Teammate Exclusives program. This program provides more than $200 in additional value, bringing the total value of our discount program up to over $1,000 a year.

Stay tuned for details on how to access the survey next week.

Introducing the new-and-improved Collingwood Safeway

Our customers and our communities across British Columbia continue to evolve, and so too does the grocery industry. That’s why its more important than ever that we invest in the right stores, in the right markets, to meet the changes in customer needs. This means giving many of our stores a much-needed facelift to bolster the Safeway brand and better serve our customers.

On March 2, Collingwood Safeway officially reopened after months of renovations. This store has been a fixture in east Vancouver since 1967. With a clear shift in customer preferences, including an increased focus on multicultural options, we knew it was the right time to invest in the store’s future.

The renovations included everything from a beautiful, refreshed exterior to an expanded multicultural grocery selection, to a makeover of each department. The store also boasts freshly painted walls and new signage throughout.

A huge shout out goes to the entire Collingwood store team for maintaining top-notch customer service throughout the renovations. And a heartfelt thank you to everyone who played a role in making the Collingwood Safeway re-opening a reality. We know these projects are no small feat, but your hard work, determination and Safeway pride, make it all possible. Way to go, team!

But we’re not stopping there. Renovations are also underway at Robson Safeway and Sardis Safeway — and we’ll share their remarkable transformations with you once complete. Over the coming years, we’ll continue investing in Safeway in B.C. through the remodeling and grand re-opening of many more, including Kelowna Safeway, Peninsula Village Safeway, Ocean Park Safeway, and Vernon Square Safeway.

Stay tuned to Safeway Talks as we share more updates on our commitment to investing in Safeway’s future.
